The South Shore of Long Island experienced major flooding issues from the storm on Friday.
News 12 Long Island's Jen Seelig was in Amityville and Lindenhurst, where flooding was a major issue. Drivers were urged to stay off the roads.
Several cars and trucks were seen driving through the floodwaters. Some motorists regretted that decision quickly and shifted their gears into reverse.
"A lot of people do not realize it's salt water, which is not a smart thing," said Bob Eickelberg. "Now I am parked halfway up that road, so this way, I have the hip boots to head all the way back to my office."
Flooded roads and sidewalks with scattered debris also were seen in Lindenhurst. The storm damaged some property.
Clayon Townsend has lived in Lindenhurst for five years and says her area always floods.
"It's more than what you can prepare for - you better just be safe than sorry and get out," Townsend said.
