Some Long Island Catholics and Catholic groups are voicing their anger at an advertisement for Equinox Fitness Clubs that they say is insulting to their religion.
The advertisement depicts four nuns gawking at the body of a naked man.
Nancy Sreckovich, of Glen Head, says she is considering ending her three-year membership at the gym. ?It?s just not right. If you want to do an ad, you don't have to do an ad this way,? she says. ?There are other ways to do an ad. Bringing religion into it is just disrespectful for anybody.?
Some non-Catholic residents also say they find the ad offensive, while others say it?s just another racy ad.
Jim Krug, of the Long Island Catholic League, says he feels his religion is seen as an easy target and that there would be more outrage if other religions were represented in a similar way.
An Equinox spokesperson says, "The ads capture the energy and artistry of the well-conditioned body in a thought-provoking fashion, blending fantasy and impact."
Equinox representatives says the ads can currently be seen in New York and Boston.
