Members of the 306th Military Police Battalion were welcomed home Monday with a special celebration at the Theodore Roosevelt Reserve Center in Uniondale.
The 120 soldiers were away from their families for a year. They spent nine months closing down a detention camp in Iraq, where 2,800 detainees are being relocated or set free.
?I?m just very very proud of him,? said Joann Sciafani, just before her fiancé returned. ?He loves our country and he is there to keep us safe. I?m just so thrilled he is coming home.?
Many of the soldiers say they?re just looking forward to a home-cooked meal.
