A special, alternate high school graduation ceremony was held in Wantagh on Thursday.
Wantagh High School's students lined up in their cars, and came out one at a time to take a picture in front of the wall at their high school -- intent on not letting the virus cancel their commencement.
They then went to the back of the field to get their diplomas, but they did it with social distancing. There were balloons, posters and plenty of pictures to capture the moment.
Students News 12 spoke with say they are happy they are graduating, but it wasn't quite what they had hoped for.
"It's not about the past three months and how heartbreaking they have been - its about the past four years," says Katherine Mazzer.
The pictures that were taken will be part of a virtual graduation that will be shown to students on June 12 -- the actual date of graduation.
