The parking lot behind Main Street businesses in Smithtown can become flooded whenever it’s hit with heavy rain.

That water makes it way onto the main road, but also into those adjacent businesses.

Rep. Nick LaLota (R-Amityville) announced Tuesday that he had secured $1.38 million for stormwater mitigation and drainage projects.

One million dollars of that will go toward renovating the parking lot, and upgrading a drainage system officials refer to as “antiquated.”

The rest of the funding will go to toward the Kings Park stormwater infrastructure project – to improve drainage in that area as well.
