(11/03/06) SMITHTOWN - Smithtown parents feared for their children's safety as a transportation official accused of falsifying bus driver test results was arraigned Friday.
Marie Neumann resigned as Smithtown's assistant transportation supervisor before allegations of wrongdoing arose. Neumann is accused of filling in correct answers for nine district bus drivers on their state-mandated driver safety exam. The test serves as part of the recertification process for the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. Parents say their children's security should not be taken lightly and they were very upset to hear about the allegations.
Neumann faces a court date sometime in February of 2007. All nine drivers later took the exams for themselves and passed.
