A small private plane made an emergency landing at Sunken Meadow Park Friday morning.
Long Island Aviators, which owns the Cessna aircraft, tell News 12 a student and instructor were on board when it made the forced landing around 11 a.m. The plane had taken off from Republic Airport in Farmingdale.
The pilot of the plane, Robert Keleti, says he began experiencing engine trouble after being in the air for a few minutes. He and his student were not injured.
The Cessna was stuck in the sand for a while after the landing, and police were eventually able to tow it away.
Keleti says he has been flying for 35 years and never had trouble before. His flight student says the incident has not deterred his desire to keep learning to fly.
Long Island Aviators says the plane was recently inspected and had its engine replaced about a year ago.
