Hundreds came to Queens Saturday to attend the funeral for a Marine from Garden City who was inspired to serve his country after the September 11th attacks.
Lance Corporal Michael Glover, 28, died last week after being shot by a sniper in Iraq. Those in attendance listened to the eulogy, delivered by Glover?s cousin, which said the Marine had a compassion for human suffering and wanted to preserve an American way of life. Glover?s uncle, a city firefighter who led efforts at the World Trade Center after the terrorist attacks, was joined by other comrades to pay their respects.
Friends and family also recalled how Glover drove down to New Orleans to help after Hurricane Katrina. He was deployed to Iraq in March. Glover?s funeral was held at St. Francis de Sales Church in Belle Harbor, the site of several funerals for local residents killed on September 11, 2001.
