The former state Senate majority leader returned to the stand Monday in his retrial on federal corruption charges.

Prosecutors cross-examined former Sen. Dean Skelos, a Rockville Centre Republican, after his dramatic testimony Friday.

Last week, he testified that his son Adam had learning disabilities and developed drinking and anger issues. He insisted he was a concerned dad, asking for help for his son -- denying allegations that he pushed for legislation in exchange for getting "help" for Adam Skelos.

He and his son are both defendants in the second trial in Manhattan in a political corruption case. Prosecutors accuse Skelos of pressuring lobbying businesses to find work for his son.

One of those businesses is Glenwood Management, which is a large real estate firm and big donor to Republicans in the state Senate. Prosecutors asked Skelos about repeated requests he made of the company on his son's behalf.

"You saw nothing wrong in asking Glenwood for something that might be helpful financially to your son?" a prosecutor asked.

"No," the former senator replied.

Skelos, who did not testify during the original trial, seemed upbeat after leaving the stand Monday. He even began to talk to reporters outside the courtroom before his lawyer cut him off.

"Oops," he said. "Let us finish the trial."
