A skateboarder was struck by a police vehicle in Wyandanch Tuesday evening.

A skateboarder was struck by a police vehicle in Wyandanch Tuesday evening.
Police say the 27-year-old man was riding northbound in the center turning lane of Straight Path around 5:10 p.m. when he was hit by a marked SUV that was responding to a call and had its lights on. It happened near the intersection of South 24th Street.
The skateboarder was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The two officers in the SUV were not injured.
Police say the SUV was impounded for a safety check.
