A site where construction was set to begin on a new Sikh temple was damaged by a fire early Sunday morning.
Firefighters responded around 4 a.m. to the building on Jericho Turnpike in Floral Park. The structure was formerly a car dealership that was purchased by the Gobind Marg Charitable Society to become a temple.
Firefighters say they found three small, separate fires burning inside the structure.
Sukh Jinder Singh, of the charitable society, says the fires come as a "complete shock."
The cause of the fires is unclear.
Nassau police tell News 12 that the Arson and Bomb Squad is investigating the incident.
