Instead of stealing an entire car, some thieves in Coram have been walking away with one rather expensive part.

A catalytic converter is a part of a car's exhaust system. Police say about 20 converters, which are partially comprised of platinum, have been stolen in the Town of Brookhaven in the past several months. Pete Cherouvis, of Liberty Automotive, says it takes two simple cuts to the undercarriage and the converter falls right out, earning the thief up to $100.

Police have arrested four people in connection with the thefts, but are unsure if they're responsible for all 20 reported incidents.
