A senior at Shoreham-Wading River High School has lead the effort to build a memorial at the school's football field to honor a fallen teammate.
Tom Cutinella died after being hit in the head during a football game more than two years ago.
Ryan Ledda, a senior on the Wildcats football team, decided to take on the project of building a memorial in an effort to bring the team together and help him become an Eagle Scout. Ledda joined the team after Cutinella's death.
The new Tom Cutinella field features a stone memorial, a plaque and a bronze statue of Cutinella in his Wildcats uniform.
The project cost about $40,000. Ledda raised some of the money by selling memorial bricks. The memorial took about one week to build, with the help of Ledda's football team and fellow Boy Scouts.
Ledda is still taking orders for inscribed bricks at the Tom Cutinella Memorial.
