Shirley man pleads guilty to stealing dead brother's identity to collect disability benefits
A Shirley man has plead guilty to several charges, including stealing his dead brother’s identity.
Prosecutors say Stavros Tsakonis falsely claimed more than $160,000 in disability benefits.
News 12 has been told Tsakonis claimed he was disabled and could not work since 1989.
However, prosecutors say the 61-year-old had been earning income as a plumber while using his deceased brother's identity since 2015.
His brother died in 2012.
