Officials have confirmed that a sand tiger shark is what injured a teenaged boy off Fire Island.
University of Florida scientists analyzed the DNA of the tooth pulled from the 13-year-old’s leg.
As News 12 reported, the boy and a 12-year-old girl were both bitten by shark’s minutes apart in July. Neither was seriously hurt.
Researchers believe both "bites" were accidental, possibly the result of young sharks following schools of fish.
