A theater in New Jersey is having a garage sale...show biz style. The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey is selling costumes and props used in its previous productions.
Artistic Director Bonnie J. Monte and her staff prepared a warehouse full of items for sale.
"It's a great fundraiser for us," says Monte. "We make a little money every year from this and that helps us produce our shows and run our education programs."
The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey is a nonprofit professional theater producing its main stage shows at its performance venue on the campus of Drew University. The sale, taking place Saturday, is being held at its business center and storage facilities in Florham Park.
Costumes, fabric, furniture, dishware and other items used in plays are for sale.
"The people that come to this sale are a vast variety of people. You've got a lot of teachers who come to find stuff that would be great for their high school productions," says Monte. "We get a lot of crafters and quilters."
The sale is open to the public Saturday, March 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 3 Vreeland Road in Florham Park.
Monte is stepping down as artistic director at the end of this year after 33 years in the position.
