Police say an Elmont sex offender has been arraigned after he allegedly threatened three girls on their way to school and spurred a standoff at his home on Monday.

Authorities say 54-year-old Patrick Rogers lunged at a 16-year-old girl and chased her along with two others down Fieldmere Street. Police say that after Rogers tried to catch up with the girls, he told a neighbor he was going to get a knife. He then went back into his house and refused to let officers in for several hours.

While inside the home, investigators say Rogers turned on his stove's gas burners.

Rogers is a Level 3 sex offender and was previously convicted of raping a 15-year-old. A neighbor says she has filed two police reports after she claims Rogers threatened her around two weeks ago.

Rogers now faces charges including endangering the welfare of a child and menacing. He is scheduled to be in court on Oct. 24.
