Sewanhaka is the latest school district on Long Island that is taking steps to comply with the state's ban on Native American mascots and imagery at schools.

Board members approved spending $3,000 to pay a consultant to help rebrand the 'Indian' mascot at Sewanhaka High School.

The decision comes after Manhasset schools recently voted to accept nominations for a renaming committee through the middle of next month.
