Final farewells began today for the fallen Air National Guard heroes from Long Island who were killed in Iraq.
Wake services were held today for Technical Sgt. Dashan Briggs at the Westhampton Beach Fire Department.
The 30-year-old Port Jefferson Station man was among the seven Air National Guard members killed when their HH60 Pave Hawk chopper crashed in western Iraq earlier this month. Briggs’ funeral is Thursday, and he will be laid to rest at Calverton National Cemetery.
Four of the seven men killed in the crash were from the 106th Rescue Wing in Westhampton Beach.
In addition, a celebration of life was held in Manhattan for Capt. Christopher "Tripp" Zanetis, of Long Island City. Zanetis was a member of the FDNY and had recently joined a law firm as an associate.
A wake will be held Thursday and Friday for Master Sgt. Christopher Raguso at the Commack Fire Department. His funeral is set for Saturday.
A funeral for Capt. Andreas O'Keeffe, of Center Moriches, will take place in Tampa, Florida on April 6.
