Almost five years after 9/11, a survey of 30 Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) stations shows most do not have important safety measures in place. At a press conference Thursday, Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) said most stations do not have closed-circuit cameras, blast resistant trash cans or enough police and security personnel. Schumer said the federal government has to do its part in order to keep the nation?s largest commuter railway safe. Schumer is calling for a complete review of the LIRR safety and security procedures.
