Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) led the charge against online sexual predators Tuesday in Mineola, introducing two new bills to crack down on offenders.
Schumer co-sponsored the bills with Senator John McCain (R-AZ). The first bill would require Web sites to preserve evidence of online child pornography, instead of immediately deleting it. This provision would aid prosecutors in putting prospective sex offenders behind bars. The second bill would require convicted sex offenders to register their e-mails and chat names, in addition to their home addresses. Under the bill, a probation officer could examine a sex offender's computer at any time to see if unregistered names are being used.
If passed, the bills could become law as early as July. Related Information: Family Watchdog MapSexOffenders.com U.S. Department of Justice
