During his visit Saturday to Long Island, Republican presidential hopeful John McCain was greeted by a group of protesters who oppose offshore drilling.
The protesters, carrying signs and an American flag, lined the Montauk Highway route where Sen. McCain was expected to pass on his way to a fundraiser.
The demonstrators chanted: ?Bush, McCain, they?re all the same,? referring to the Arizona senator?s support for President Bush?s offshore drilling plan.
The Long Island Progressive Coalition says offshore drilling could turn Long Island beaches into a playground for oil companies.
?His big promises are to drill all over the country, in Alaska, destroying our natural resources,? says Lisa Tyson, of the coalition. "What we need to do is to invest in alternative energies.?
Sen. McCain declined to comment on the protest.
