Lawmakers are calling on State Education Commissioner John King to delay the state's continued implementation of the Common Core curriculum.

Sen. Ken LaValle, along with other state lawmakers, met at a Senate Education Committee hearing in Albany today where the main topic was Common Core. Lawmakers would like King to delay the continued implementation of the Common Core, but so far King has showed no signs of supporting a delay. King did admit, however, that the Common Core has become quite a public relations problem with parents linking the term to difficult state assessment tests.

Lawmakers are threatening to pass legislation that would halt the implementation, if no action is taken by King.

Right now, some Long Island districts have started the Common Core Video Help Initiative. The initiative helps parents and students with the basics of the new math curriculum by giving them access to videos on YouTube.
