Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand is proposing the food industry get another $60 billion in grant money to help business owners.
The massive COVID relief plan passed by Congress included nearly $28 billion for the food and beverage industry. However, less than a third of the applicants ended up getting money.
The application for that funding ran out Wednesday, leaving a lot of Long Island business owners even more frustrated.
"The food costs now have all increased," says Bruno Surace, of Amity Ales. "Over the last year, everyone is charging almost double for certain products. The cost of goods is up, payroll is always high."
Gillibrand says she has bi-partisan support and is hoping for Congressional approval.
