The COVID-19 pandemic has knocked out every professional sport, but the UFC is up off the mat. They've started hosting fight nights in empty arenas, and last week, Selden's Brian Boom Kelleher was a knockout.
Kelleher said it was a huge win, especially during times like these, and people looking for something to watch.
The match was held in Jacksonville, Florida in an empty arena.
“It was pretty surreal, walking out to an empty crowd. I had to keep focus, but once I got into the octagon in the cage and I got moving it felt like a normal fight,” said Kelleher.
All the fighters, trainers and cornermen were all tested.
Kelleher says he felt safe. “I felt safe, I thought UFC did a great job with their protocol, everyone got tested, temperatures were checked, it was very professional everything went smoothly so I was happy with the system,” says Kelleher.
Kelleher received a $50,000 bonus for the fight of the night. He says he is looking forward to getting back in the octagon soon.
