A Selden teen was arrested Wednesday morning for posting a threat against her high school on her Facebook page, police say.
Authorities say it was a Connecticut girl who alerted them of the message. The girl was looking at 16-year-old Tiffany Spatafora?s profile page, saw the threat and notified Suffolk County police. Spatafora was arrested around 5 a.m.
Police say Spatafora admitted to making the threat to get out of going to school.
"This particular student had no access to weapons and at this particular time, we have no evidence that she intended to or had the means to commit that kind of violence at the school," Detective Sgt. Frank Stewart says.
With students back for the first day of the new school year at Newfield High School, many say they were surprised Spatafora made the threat, but say similar threats are made all the time.
Spatafora is charged with aggravated harassment and falsely reporting an incident. She was released on her own recognizance.
