Commuters headed home on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Tuesday night had some extra company.
Hundreds of extra uniformed officers were added to train stations throughout New York City and Long Island as officials beefed up security in the wake of terrorist attacks in India. Seven bombs exploded within 11 minutes during the evening rush in the Indian financial capital of Mumbai Tuesday, leaving at least 147 dead and 400 injured. Officials say the added security locally is just a precaution.
Riders say safety is the most important thing and they appreciate the upgraded security measures. However, they say they doubt the extra manpower will stop a determined terrorist.
