Two more Taco Bells in Nassau were ordered shutdown Wednesday following the company's decision to remove green onions from 6,000 restaurants across the U.S.
Taco Bells in Seaford and New Hyde Park are the latest to be ordered closed after officials say more people came forward showing symptoms of the E. coli bacteria. Ten Taco Bell restaurants in all were shut down on the Island for cleaning, but eight have since reopened. Suffolk officials also confirmed a twelfth case Wednesday and Nassau representatives are looking into 26 instances of people showing symptoms in addition to the three confirmed cases.
Earlier Wednesday, the company confirmed a lab found three samples of green onions that appear to be contaminated with the bacteria. Taco Bell says it is removing green onions from the menu as a precaution until it knows the cause of the E. coli outbreak "conclusively."
Health officials report E. coli also sickened several people in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
