Residents in one Seaford community are pushing back against plans for a new 24-hour gas station and convenience store.
The company that owns the Quick Chek station on Middle Country Road in Lake Grove is eyeing a new location on Merrick Road in Seaford. The 6,500-square-foot lot would include 16 gas pumps and a café.
Neighbors say they're concerned the station would negatively impact traffic flow and safety. Some are worried that the Quick Chek could be a magnet for tractor-trailer drivers looking for a place to park overnight.
Quick Chek says its Seaford station would be similar to its Lake Grove location, which it says is not designed for truckers and is not a truck stop.
Before the plans can move forward, the company needs to get approval from Nassau County and the town of Hempstead, as the plans would include use of some land currently zoned for residential use.
