Members of the Suffolk County Police Department's anti-gang unit have been reassigned throughout Suffolk precincts in an effort to better tackle the county's gang problem.
Previously, the department's Patrol Special Ops Team would collectively focus on a single gang hot spot. Acting Suffolk Police Commissioner Edward Webber believes that practice is ineffective, and the U.S. Justice Department agrees.
"The gang officers are back in the precincts, where they belong," says County Executive Steve Bellone (D-Suffolk).
