An Amityville school was briefly locked down Monday as police investigated reports of gunshots fired nearby.
Police say numerous callers reported shots being fired from a white vehicle at a black Acura sedan around 8:30 a.m. When officers arrived, both vehicles had fled the scene.
A bullet hole was found in the second-floor window of a home on County Line Road. There were no reports of any injuries.
The scare prompted nearby Northwest Elementary School to go into lockdown mode for about 20 minutes.
Officers later located the unoccupied Acura outside of an Amityville home. The vehicle was impounded and police say the investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
