A senior at North Shore high school
is the latest winner of the $1,000 News 12 scholar athlete award sponsored by
Bethpage Federal Credit Union.
Guilianna Graziosi has played
varsity soccer since her freshman year. She serves as the team’s starting
goalie.
Graziosi serves as an inspiration
for many reasons. In fifth grade, she developed alopecia as a
result of stress after both of her parents battled cancer.
She lost all of her hair and was
bald for nearly five years.
Thanks to experimental treatments, her hair grew back.
The athlete tells News 12 soccer
helped to uplift her spirits during the trying time.
She threw
herself into the game and found teammates who offered unwavering support.
Her soccer team
became family -- and she became a two-time conference player and captain.
Graziosi is a phenom on the field and in the classroom. She has a 4.0 grade
point average and participates in the school's science research program.
News 12 is told
her goal is to become a doctor, having worked at North Shore Medical Center and
interned at NYU Winthrop.
