A Suffolk County mother was arrested after she allegedly drove drunk with her three children in the car and then crashed on Saturday night.
Investigators say Sarah Knakal, of Huntington Station, crashed into a pole and a sign on East Jericho Turnpike at around 6 p.m. They say she then shoved a police officer and fled the scene with her 5-, 7- and 9-year-old children.
Police eventually arrested her on Dix Hills Road. Newsday reports that the children are in the care of family members.
Knakal was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated under Leandra's Law, leaving the scene of an accident and endangering the welfare of a child.
Knakal pleaded not guilty in court today and was released on $30,000 cash bail. She is due back in court on May 16.
