Sachem school board members adopted a proposed 2025-2026 budget during a meeting Wednesday night.
This comes after the district faced a $6.5 million budget hole and previously considered closing a school.
Sachem school district voters will vote on it next month.
Sachem School Board President Robert Scavo praised the adopted budget.
“I think you guys did a creative job on putting together a budget that has the least impact on children,” he said.
Sachem School Board Trustee Michael Isernia was the only vote against the proposed budget.
"I'm going to vote no on the budget because I don't like seeing it come out of the restricted reserves,” he said.
The board approved budget maintains all curricular programs at current levels, drama and music programs and most athletic programs.
Also discussed was Proposition 2, which will also be up for a vote next month.
If approved, it would change bus transportation requirements, implementing a new zone for students considered walkers.
As News 12 previously reported, the district would go from having 630 walkers to over 2800 if Proposition 2 passes.
Sachem Assistant Superintendent for Business and Operations Michele Psarakis said during the meeting that the outcome of a vote on Proposition 2 would not impact the adopted budget.
"If passed, we would have 1.75 million less in expenses for transportation,” she said. “We'll have that fund balance leftover to put back into reserves if that's where the board chooses to put it."
The next board meeting is on April 23.
Community members can ask questions about the budget during a meeting on May 7.
The vote on the budget and Proposition 2 is on May 20.
