The Sachem Board of Education held a special meeting Wednesday to try and work out a new school budget.
Voters shot down the district's original spending plan that asked residents to pierce the cap with a 4.8% tax increase.
The board is now considering lowering the levy to 1.9%, but the district would use millions in reserve funding and potentially make staffing cuts.
Members of the board debated whether to eliminated some social workers, librarians and security guards.
Certain clubs and spots could also potentially be cut.
A second budget plan needs to be adopted by June 4.
It will be put to a vote on June 18.
