Sunday’s stormy weather didn’t stop runners from taking part in the Suffolk County Marathon to help local veterans.
Rain poured down in Patchogue as runners took to the course. Scores of spectators were soaking wet, but they cheered on the nearly 2,800 runners who participated.
Runners from 22 states and four countries ran the soggy 26.2 miles, and they had few complaints.
"Once you're soaking, it doesn't matter anymore,” said Deanna Figari, of Hampton Bays.

Men's marathon winner Derek Hanson finished the race in about two hours and 41 minutes.

The money raised is given to nonprofits that provide services that can be life-changing for veterans.

Organizers say the race has raised more than $300,000 to support veterans since it started as a yearly event in 2015.
