Residents in the scandal-plagued Roslyn School District are being asked to approve a massive pay hike for the new superintendent.
Former Superintendent Frank Tassone is awaiting sentencing for his involvement in the $11 million financial scandal that rocked the district last year. Interim Superintendent David Helme has been making $240,000 without benefits. Now the district is asking voters to approve a new spending plan that includes $340,000 in salary and benefits for the new superintendent.
Residents say they are outraged that the district is continuing the trend of spending more instead of cutting down costs. Civic activist and businessman Cary Ratner says the proposed salary is obscene and the district has learned nothing from past mistakes. The Roslyn school board is expected to announce the appointment of a new superintendent at a public meeting Thursday.
