In the midst of a fiscal crisis and unsteady leadership, yet another Roosevelt school official has called it quits.
Donald Humphrey, principal of Roosevelt High School for the past two years, had his resignation accepted by the school board Monday night. Students, who are out of school for the summer, were surprised and disappointed by Humphrey's abrupt decision.
"He was so good to the students. Why would he quit?" student Ashley Lee said. "He was actually encouraging students to get the grades they need to get out of Roosevelt. Because, as you can see, what is Roosevelt?"
Frank Scott of the Roosevelt Watch Society said the move comes while the state-run district is battling an $8 million deficit. Interim superintendent William Brosnan received his post after the previous superintendent resigned in the middle of a spending scandal.
Neither Humphrey nor the school board would comment on the reason for the principal's departure.
