Suffolk police say alcohol played a big part in a car wreck that landed a driver and his teen passenger in the hospital early Friday morning.
Police say 23-year-old Aundre Talbert and two young friends went to at least one bar before getting into his car. At around 2:15 a.m., officials say Talbert crossed into oncoming traffic on Route 111 in Central Islip, hitting a Nissan driven by Rosa Romero, of Brentwood.
Romero suffered non-life threatening injuries. Talbert?s passenger, 19-year-old Jonathan Grecky, of Ronkonkoma, was airlifted to the hospital with two broken legs and internal injuries. Talbert was also taken to the hospital, where he was arrested. He is charged with DWI and driving without a license.
Suffolk police have put extra DWI patrols on the streets for the holidays through the New Year.
