A historic museum in Ulster County will be closed for the summer 2026 season as crews begin a major roof restoration and repair project.

The Matthewis Persen House Museum in Kingston is considered one of the oldest and most historically important buildings in the county.

The Ulster County Clerk said the roof requires critical repairs to preserve the structure.

Construction is expected to begin in July and continue through November.

Additional work is planned to resume in the spring of 2027.

The house was originally built in the 17th century and expanded over time, serving as an important piece of the region’s history.
