The historic Warner Theater in downtown Ridgewood will cease movie operations and shut down Sunday, Jan. 28., the theater's owner Bow Tie Partners announced.

The four-screen cinema opened on June 15, 1932 as a single-screen movie theater. Bow Tie Partners purchased The Warner Theater in 2013. Its affiliate, Bow Tie Cinemas, has operated it as a movie theater since then.

Bow Tie Partners says it plans to remain part of the downtown Ridgewood community. The real estate agency is planning to redevelop the space, potentially as a single auditorium performing arts venue.

The company said in a release that the COVID-19 pandemic caused dramatic changes to the movie theater business, particularly in older venues, and that business is no longer viable at the location.
