Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann’s longtime therapist is facing felony charges after practicing as a clinical social worker without a license for years and claiming over tens of thousands of dollars in fake insurance reimbursements.
According to the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office, Alison Winter, 52, has been charged with grand larceny, scheme to defraud and the unauthorized practice of a profession.
Charging documents reveal she was arrested in November of 2024 on grand larceny charges as well as scheme to defraud and 14 counts of unauthorized practice of a profession for allegedly posing as a licensed social worker between 2018 and 2024.
Winter was the Heuermann family’s therapist while he was awaiting his sentence behind bars for nearly three years on Long Island.
She also appeared in a recent documentary about the case and is due back in court later this month.
