A retired NYPD officer says a group of Long Islanders is helping him with his battle against a 9/11-related cancer.
Scott Blackshaw, of Huntington Station, says he worked down at Ground Zero the days right after the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
He was diagnosed with brain and esophageal cancer in 2015 after nearly 20 years on the force.
Since then, a group of his neighbors have been helping him get to appointments.
Members of the group that call themselves Team Scotty say they will drop anything to run and help the retired officer.
