News 12 Long Island has learned that a pedestrian who died crossing Old Country Road in Carle Place is a former Nassau Police detective.
Police say retired Detective Joseph Skowronski was walking across Old Country Road near Cherry Lane in Carle Place around 4 p.m. Thursday when he was struck.
According to police, Skowronski was hit by a passing car. The driver was an 18-year-old man.
Skowronski was pronounced dead at the scene.
No criminal charges have been filed.
