Residents within the Sewanhaka Central School District are soon going to vote on a $99 million bond referrendum.

The school district says the money would go toward "long overdue" renovations for many of the schools, some of which haven't had work done for nearly 50 years.

Superintendent Dr. Ralph Ferrie says all five of the schools in the district need new roofs and several infrastructure upgrades.

District officials estimate that the renovations would cost an average of $144 per household per year for 15 to 20 years, depending on what the bond covers. Some taxpayers say that's a lot of money and they're still not sure if all that work is needed.

The district says the state will pick up 40 percent of the price tag.

Polls open on Dec. 4 at 6 a.m., 7 a.m. or 8 a.m., depending on where voters live. Polls will remain open until 9 p.m.
