Bronx residents are picking up the pieces after a five-alarm fire ripped through a row of houses on Concord Avenue Sunday.
The American Red Cross is helping 12 displaced families. The group is giving out cash cards so families can purchase clothes, food and other items. Some families are also being placed in temporary housing. One woman, who only has the clothes on her back, says she?s just thankful no one died in the fierce flames.
Officials say the fire, which started at 509 Concord Ave., damaged several homes and sent 19 firefighters to the hospital. Residents say the damage is so severe, their homes will probably be demolished. Residents also say they heard firefighters complain about a lack of fire hydrants on the block. Homeowners say that made the situation worse, but the FDNY counters that?s not true.
