The Town of Oyster Bay approved a measure banning tractor-trailers from using South Oyster Bay Road at a hearing Tuesday night.
The decision came after residents voiced their concerns regarding the issue earlier in the day.
In December, the state Department of Transportation designated the road a "truck access road."
Prior to the designation, trucks could be a maximum of 43 feet long. The DOT's designation now allows double-trailer trucks as long as 65 feet and auto-carriers up to 75 feet.
Residents say the roadway - which is lined by homes, a school and stores - is now dangerous.
The state says it will not reverse its decision unless there are a lot of accidents involving the trucks. So far, that hasn't happened.
