Residents of the Pinehurst Senior Apartments in East Patchogue say they have been dealing with garbage, bugs and doors that don't lock.
They say they have repeatedly asked for their concerns around cleanliness, safety and security to be prioritized by management.
"Nobody should have to live that way," says Mary Fran, who lives at the 55-and-over complex.
She says there is no security and people just walk in and out of the building with doors that don't lock.
Residents also say for five days the trash piled up, leading to dead flies and maggots in the trash room.
They also say their intercom system hasn't been working properly for over a month and the elevator often goes out of order.
In August 2022, a pipe burst at the same complex, sending water leaking into the hallways and inside apartments.
Residents say a "mobile heating trailer" was brought in last year to help with heating the water after the pipe burst. They believe that solution is the reason for lingering water issues including low pressure and sometimes not having hot water."
"We need to make some changes in here to give people a quality of life," Fran says.
When addressed with the residents' concerns, Conifer LLC., the management company of the building, told News 12 that they will "look into it and get back to us as soon as possible."
Residents say there is an emergency number they are told to call to reach out to management, but when they call, they say they are told their issue is not an emergency and not "on the list."
They also say they have asked repeatedly to see the elevator inspection records, but the request has gone unanswered.
