About 100 residents met Thursday to discuss the fate of the Bavarian Inn in Lake Ronkonkoma.

Neighbors gathered to develop a plan to pitch to County Executive Steve Bellone so the waterfront property can be used in the future. Many residents said the building should be torn down and turned into a park, while others fear the county-owned land will be sold to a developer.

Legislator John Kennedy says he will propose a resolution July 30 that will call for the land to be converted into a park.

In a statement to News 12, the county said, "It will look at all possible options for this property and find a solution that is in the best interest of all Suffolk County taxpayers."

The building, which was once a popular restaurant, has been vacant for the past six years and has become an eyesore in the community.
