A plan to build on a well-known Suffolk County golf course has some homeowners worried about the future of their neighborhood.
Many residents in Fort Salonga are angry that a developer is proposing to build 110 condos on the pristine Indian Hills golf course. Northwind Group is marketing the condo development as a "neighborhood preservation project."
Building condos on the Indian Hills Country Club property would require a major change in zoning, but the Town of Huntington says that has not yet even been considered.
Meanwhile, many homeowners say they feel betrayed because their own civic association has already voted to endorse the Northwind project.
Some homeowners were so angry that they formed their own civic association to fight the Northwind plan. Both the Fort Salonga association and Northwind declined to comment.
A hearing on the condo proposal is expected to be held early next year.
